Mouth Anatomy
Bit fitting is more than just finding the correct size or cheekpiece for your horse - that it’s really about the mouthpiece fitting the anatomy of the horse’s mouth. In this session Kim explains what you should look for including how big the tongue is, the shape of the palate (roof of the mouth), the shape and sensitivity of the ‘bars’ and how fleshy the cheeks and lips are.
We will also take a look at potential mouth injuries. Perhaps your horse was born that way or something happened when it was a rambunctious young horse? You should always check and Kim explains what things to look for - especially bone spurs on the bars which are very painful.
